A Holistic Approach to Pediatrics and the Role of the Internet

We've all been there. Something is wrong with our child, and the gut reaction is to google it. We need answers, and we need them fast. Article after article gives answer after answer – one not always in agreement with the next.

So much has changed in healthcare. We have plenty of information at our fingertips, but it can often be conflicting – leaving us with more questions than answers when all is said and done. And the Internet isn't the only healthcare evolution we face.

Today, a visit to the pediatrician's office can spark additional questions for parents that may not be able to be addressed in the current visit. Our healthcare system is designed for 20-minute visits that often leave pediatricians with little time to offer information or research like they often desire.

It used to be that the pediatrician was a one-stop-shop for all the information we need for our children's health. Now, we see a shift from pediatricians being more authoritative and answering all questions to being more informative, encouraging a collaborative decision-making process, and introducing more specialists as needed. This often provides more in-depth information and resources – but also usually takes much more time.

In an ideal world, parents would have a community of resources to support their child's healthy development. But that quality, holistic access to care that meets the family's needs has two key partners: the medical home, led by the pediatrician, which features medical core caregivers, and the Internet as an adjunct and virtual care partner.

When it comes to virtual care, we ask ourselves: which resources can I trust? If the Internet serves as this secondary partner, parents and caregivers need a resource that provides them with tailored pediatric content that is trusted and vetted. ParentMD is that resource. Whether it's telehealth, education, or a community you're looking for, the platform was created by board-certified pediatricians with those gaps in mind.

The resources available on ParentMD have been vetted by medical professionals and won't leave you reading between the lines to figure out what to do next. From telehealth services to educational resources to a community of caregivers, ParentMD is there to help you navigate the challenges your child faces from birth all the way into young adulthood.
